I’ve always been excited about turning 36 for some odd reason, so when it came around this year I couldn’t wait to celebrate!… I managed to extend the parties across several weeks so that I could enjoy the festivities with friends and family. I started out by combining joint birthdays, the Saturday before my birthday. The day began with a hike at Los Liones Trail followed by a lunch with Natasha, a good friend of mine whose birthday is on March 4th. We’ve celebrated our birthdays together in the past and decided to do the same this year with our mutual friends.
We were very ambitious in our plans – first we were planning to go sailing (since Karin and Andre were getting certified to sail and were part of a yacht club), then we downgraded to paddleboarding and kayaking thinking that may have been easier and plus we wanted to be out on the water. Then we just settled for lunch by the beach in Venice. But at least we all made it!

Caffe Concerto
After lunch, I celebrated yet again with my aunt Joletta whose birthday we usually always celebrate together with the family. My aunt Grace chose the restaurant for our birthdays so I wasn’t sure what to expect. She has phenomenal taste so I wasn’t worried. I was surprised though that she chose Caffe Concerto, a restaurant in Koreatown, since it’s a bit far from her place on the westside. I had never eaten here before but their food was great and the dining room on the second floor was completely packed that Saturday night. The Caffe is a family-owned restaurant and their pastas are delicious (I had the lobster pasta), and all of their sauces are homemade. Their desserts are also made on-site and we ordered a strawberry shortcake in the shape of a beautiful red heart.
