The Castaway Wedding in Burbank was outdoors in a beautiful setting that had waterfalls and wildlife. While setting up and visiting the site several times before the actual wedding, I’d encountered deer that would walk up curiously to the tables and look around. One deer even brought its little baby and walked around so calmly and peacefully you’d have thought it came by everyday. On the wedding day, they showed up in the hills but respectfully kept their distance.
The venue was quite large and because of the blank spaces, the challenge was in creating personal touches that reflected the bride and groom’s personalities. Since they’re both dear friends of mine, I ended up taking on a labor of love. The dance floor had a large backdrop that was completely empty. I thought it was a good idea to place handmade paper pom poms in the background. It took 500+ coffee filters dyed in tea, dried, and then hand sewn into pom poms to create the effect of the paper heart background you see above. We also draped the dance floor with billowy white curtains and hung different sized paper lanterns.
The bride wanted to go for a cheerful and colorful effect so the color theme was a bright yellow and navy blue. We dressed the wedding arch with beautiful fabric that was interspersed with sunflowers, to give it a pop of beautiful detail. Overall everyone had a great evening.
