In the meantime, here’s a great place to start.
1. Begin with a Daydream
I encourage brides to begin by referencing their own personal style when beginning their approach to wedding planning. The first thing you’ll want to do is gather information. You can browse through fashion magazines to find trends, colors, and styles that speak to you. Also, consider locations you’ve traveled to or dream destinations for inspiration. Look for venues, decorations, and cultural elements that reflect the vibe you want for your wedding. And of course, wedding blogs such as this one, and Instagram, are additional resources for you. Next, you’ll want to create a physical or digital mood board to collect and organize the themes that resonate with you. Use platforms like Pinterest or Canva to create digital mood boards that you can easily share with others.

Combine the themes and ideas you’ve gathered to create a cohesive wedding vision. Decide on the overall style, ambiance, and colors that will guide your decision-making throughout the planning process. Use your mood board as a reference point to ensure consistency in your choices and to communicate your vision to vendors and suppliers.
2. Setting the Scene
There are so many options to choose from when choosing your venue. There are outdoor spaces that range from barns to beaches and traditional venues such as churches and chapels. Consider the time of year you’re getting married and factor in the weather because you don’t want your guests to be uncomfortable. Your venue choice(s) will set the scene from the ceremony down to the reception.

3. Create Your Budget
Determine your wedding budget early on and prioritize the elements that are most important to you. This will help you allocate your resources effectively and avoid overspending. Remember that the venue rental and food and beverage costs usually make up 50% of your budget. You’ll want to consider the practicality of the inspiration you’ve gathered and how it aligns with your budget. There are also various ways to reduce your wedding budget if you’re open to thinking creatively. One of the most impactful ways to reduce your budget is to have a smaller guest count. This can dramatically impact your bottom line. With the rise of the post-covid minimony, brides could lavish their guests. Venues usually maintain a minimum of food and beverage, and with fewer guests, event hosts could upgrade the entrees and bar selections for more intimate gatherings.
4. Start Researching Your Vendors
Use your mood boards as sources to find vendors who align with your vision. Look for wedding planners, photographers, florists, and other professionals who have experience in the style and aesthetic you desire. Read reviews, view portfolios, and schedule consultations to determine if they are the right fit for your wedding. Usually, your venue and/or wedding planner will have a list of preferred recommended vendors that they have worked with before. This is usually a good place to start because these vendors are referred by people you trust.
